Direct Message Preferences

You will receive notifications when a user sends you a new direct message. If you prefer not to receive these alerts, you can silence notifications for direct messages on a per-chat basis or for all chats. 

To silence message notifications for specific chats, follow these steps:

Step 1: While logged into your account, navigate to the bottom right of your Home Feed and click the Messages tab.

Step 2: From the Direct Message inbox, choose the chat for which you want to modify notifications.

Step 3: Click the "i" icon in the top right corner to access Chat Details.

Step 4: Switch the toggle that says Silence Notifications. Enabling this will turn off all new notifications for this chat only. 

To silence message notifications for all chats at once, follow these steps:

Step 1: While logged into your account, navigate to the top left of your Home Feed and click on your avatar.

Step 2: From the side menu options that appear, choose Preferences.

Step 3: Locate the Direct Messages section and switch the toggle that says Message Notifications off.

Note: Turning Message Notifications off means you will not receive alerts when people send you a new message.

To disable other users from starting a new chat with you, follow these steps:

Step 1: While logged into your account, navigate to the top left of your Home Feed and click on your avatar.

Step 2: From the sidebar options that appear, choose Preferences.

Step 3: Locate the Direct Messages section and switch the toggle that says Allow Others To Message Me off. 

Note: Turning Allow Others To Message Me off means other users will NOT be able to start a new chat with you. Users will still be able to message you in existing chats, and you may start new chats with users who follow you. 

To leave a chat, follow these steps:

Step 1: While logged into your account, navigate to the bottom right of your Home Feed and click the Messages tab.

Step 2: Choose the chat you want to leave from the Direct Message inbox.

Step 3: Click the "i" icon in the top right corner to access Chat Details.

Step 4: Choose Leave chat at the bottom of your screen.  

Step 5: Confirm your leave action by choosing Leave again in the popup.

Note: Messages will be deleted for you and this chat will be removed from your inbox.

To block a user, follow these steps:

Step 1: While logged into your account, navigate to the bottom right of your Home Feed and click the Messages tab.

Step 2: Choose the chat with the user you want to block.

Step 3: Click the "i" icon in the top right corner to access Chat Details.

Step 4: Choose Block at the bottom of your screen.  

Step 5: Confirm your block action by choosing Block again in the popup.

Note: Blocking will prevent that user from direct messaging you and viewing your content. You can undo this action by visiting your blocks in your preferences.
